I used to get severe, respiratory infections EVERY SINGLE winter. After one especially rough month of not being able to breath well, having zero energy, and taking time off from work, I decided I didn’t want to keep repeating that pattern.
I started being more intentional about giving my body seasonal support — adjusting my herbs, self-care routines, and diet to better match the time of year. Guess what herb popped into my life? Osha Root.
Osha Root [Ligusticum Porteri] combined with our Chilcuague Natural Oral Spray was a straight up life saver for me. With lots of travel, time spent with friends and family, being around people who weren’t feeling their best, this combination plus the other adjustments I made kept me healthy through the entire season.

Osha root is a perennial herb that is part of the carrot and parsley family. It grows in high-elevation mountainous regions of the Rocky Mountains and the Southwestern United States. It's also known as “Bear Root” or “Bear Medicine,” names that come from observations of bears consuming the plant after hibernation to help stimulate digestion and generate internal warmth.
As a side note, did you know that bears are known as the herbalists of the Animal Kingdom? They intentionally consume over 40 species of plants as medicine. Nature is SO cool!

Osha Root Helps You Breathe Better and Supports Your Immune System
Osha Root is best known for its ability to support respiratory function and immune response. It helps to clear mucus and phlegm from the lungs and airways making it a great herbal medicine for wet nagging coughs. Other compounds help improve oxygen use in the lungs and support immune function, making breathing more comfortable and helping the body cope with seasonal stress.
Osha root benefits:
Supports comfortable breathing by keeping airways clear
Helps maintain healthy mucous membrane function
Supports oxygen utilization in the lungs
Assists the body in adapting to environmental and seasonal stress
Offers natural defense against common irritants
Promotes a balanced immune response
Supports digestive health
It's warming qualities make it great for seasonal changes during winter and spring
Things to consider when working with Osha Root
Just like any herbal medicine, it should be used with intention and under recommended guidelines for dosing. Our osha root spagyric is a potent formulation that can be used to support the body through seasonal transitions such as autumn to winter or winter into spring. It's also best worked with at the first sign of a cold or infection, if you have a wet, lingering productive cough, and even to support your high altitude climbs!
If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, it's best to avoid working with osha unless you are working closely with a healthcare professional. Same thing with certain medications, check with your healthcare provider.
Suggested Use:
Osha Root should be worked with on a short-term basis or intermittently. Below are some recommendations
If you're doing a detox or need support moving mucus out of your lungs take 1 dropper in the AM and 1 dropper in the evening for 2-weeks. Take a pause for 2-weeks and continue using 1 dropper per day as needed.
If you feel something coming on or need support with a lingering wet cough, use 3 droppers per day for 7-days.
If you are working with osha root for seasonal support, use 1-2 droppers daily for 1-2 weeks.
